On our own initiative, I undertook a strategic product redesign that transformed Gumloop from a single-screen tool into a comprehensive automation platform. This self-directed project demonstrated how the platform could evolve while maintaining its core simplicity. Though unsolicited, this vision showcased the potential for Gumloop to scale into an intelligent automation ecosystem that could revolutionize business operations
Challenge: As an early-stage product, Gumloop’s entire experience was built around a single main screen—the Hub.
While this simplicity was intentional, it introduced several usability challenges:
🚨 Overloaded Interface – The Hub tried to do it all: workflow building, execution monitoring, and integrations. This led to cluttered interactions and a steep learning curve.
❌ Lack of User Guidance – First-time users struggled to structure automations efficiently due to limited onboarding and no workflow templates.
🧩 Fragmented UI & Poor Visual Hierarchy – Modular components were powerful but lacked organization, making it difficult to connect and scale workflows.
📊 Limited Execution Visibility – Users couldn’t easily track success metrics or troubleshoot automation failures, leading to frustration and distrust in the system
Approach
Our design process involved:
Competitive Analysis: Researching existing automation platforms to identify best practices and areas for differentiation.
User Flow Mapping: Visualizing the user journey to understand how users interact with the platform. Wireframing & Prototyping: Creating low-fidelity wireframes and interactive prototypes to test and refine the user interface.
Visual Design: Developing a clean, modern, and professional visual design that aligns with Gumloop's brand identity.
Usability Testing: Conducting usability testing with target users like Will to gather feedback and iterate on the design.
This redesign wasn’t just about improving usability—it was about future-proofing Gumloop as an intelligent, scalable automation ecosystem.
